Email is a fundamental communications tool for City Employees. This training module will help you comply with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), bylaws, and policies - AND - it will help make your day-to-day work easier.

This course is intended to provide a general orientation to City vehicle and mobile equipment operations. It covers general pre and post-trip inspection practices, equipment maintenance, vehicle features and operation familiarization, work zone and yard safety, fueling procedures and motor vehicle accident reporting.

Vehicle Orientation

Each City has its own practices, but it is understood that it is a driver's responsibility to operate in a safe manner and to ensure the proper maintenance of a City vehicle to prevent injuries and property damage.
The focus of this course is on portable radios, (hand-held) and mobile radios, (mounted in vehicles). At the end of this course, participants will understand and know how two-way radios function, radio etiquette, how to communicate with the City’s radio dispatch, what to do in the event of an emergency, the layout of “talk groups”, how to use “lone worker” functionality and how to use the “talk around” channel.
Municipal Radio Systems Operation

Two-way radios in the Municipal environment are used for coordinating work and for emergency purposes. Unlike cell phones, which are generally one-to-one communications, radios allow for instant, one-to-many communication, to allow for coordination amongst groups.
Vehicle Accident Reporting

This brief course is related to vehicle safety in a municipal environment and is a “checklist” intended to provide the steps to take in the event of an accident in a City vehicle.
Accidents are never intentional. The reporting of all accidents helps to educate employees about best safety practices and helps to maintain equipment to like-new appearances reducing insurance and personnel costs.
Pre/Post Trip Inspection Reporting

It is a driver’s responsibility to operate in a safe manner and to ensure the proper maintenance of City vehicles and equipment to prevent injuries and property damage. In some cases, Trip Inspection Reports are legal documents and the lack of compliance can lead to personal fines and demerit points.
This brief orientation is intended to demonstrate the pre and post inspection reporting required in a municipal environment for 3 vehicle types including Trucks, (One Ton & Over); Equipment, (Construction & Agricultural); and Ride-on Mowers.
